5 cool ways to use ChunkIt by TigerLogic

This is just a quick review of the new ChunkIt! product from TigerLogic, with a couple tips included. I'm positive that there are many more uses that will be figured out in the next couple weeks.

5 cool ways to use ChunkIt by TigerLogic:

1. Use the term chunkit. The web is a dynamically created space, but with a term as new as this, search engines aren’t quite sure what to make of it. In the first 20 results from Google, TigerLogic’s homepage shows up, and so does this blog, and the Techcrunch blog, but otherwise the majority of the first 30 sites aren’t really about the new ChunkIt! product. Helpful to see these irrelevant chunks before wasting time at chunkit.com or chunkit.net.

2. Type “Larry Ellison compensation” into the ChunkIt! box and then click the Chunk Google (or other search engine) button. I wasn’t aware that he made that much and to find out I never had to go to any of the actual websites that were returned in the search results. Fast and informative. I wonder what Bill Gates makes?

3. Type “Earth Day Events” into the ChunkIt! box to see what you can find near you. Or check out the Green Apple Festival events listed at our parter site.

4. Search a heavy text document like those found at the SEC website. I used Hewlett Packard as an example. This link takes you to a recent quarterly report from the company: http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/47217/000104746908002445/a2183022...
Now type “Hurd“ in the ChunkIt! box – DO NOT PRESS ENTER (The first few times I used the tool I would press enter at this stage – however it will take you to a chunked google search instead.) Click the Chunk this Page or Chunk Right-Hand Page button instead. (if you do press enter, as I still do sometimes, then just hit the small back arrow in the top of the right pane and try again.)

5. Go to http://www.bibliomania.com and select “read” on the top left of the page. Select fiction in the drop down list and then select “brave new world” from the list. Type “soma” in the ChunkIt! box and click the Chunk this Page and Links button to see how Aldus Huxley used the term in his book.

I hope this helps get you started on finding cool ways to use ChunkIt!

I've read a number of reviews on this new service. Mostly negative, but this post really shows the usefulness of Chunk It. This post should be on the Chunk It website, explaining how to use the product.

This blog tells us what we can click and search on but we can do that in any search engine. And there are already a bunch of tools that aggregate search results from different engines and render them in different ways - that's not what this tool does. So what is it about this tool that makes it any smarter about returning more valuable results?

All I have to say is Chunky is the new Beautiful. I guess I can stop nagging my girlfriend to go to the gym. Just kidding. But really, ChunkIt! is awesome. I just discovered this effective research tool from my friend the other day. I was trying to find a new pair of Nike Dunks on craigslist and it was seriously taking FOREVER. My friend was showing me chunkit on CNN and I'm like "Dude, I don't go to CNN.com". So then he's like what site are you on right now? I'm like "Craigslist, dude." So I typed in Black, White, size 13, Vintage, Nike, Dunks, and chunkit seriously found my shoe in SECONDS. I think I might recommend this new product to my friends... it's seriously awesome. I hope it stays free to use!
